Mariah Lord

Mariah Lord, MA, LMFT

Picture
Being truly seen and understood can be a transformative experience. That is why my intention when working with clients is to create a validating and empowering environment built on the basis of authentic connection within the therapeutic relationship. I believe that healing can come from creating new meaning from our experiences. My hope is that in our work together, we can collaborate on unveiling your inner strengths and wisdom and utilizing them to support you in achieving your personal vision for growth.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), my work with clients is rooted in a relational lens. Whether working with a couple, an individual, or a family, I believe that in order to fully witness someone’s experience, we must acknowledge the bigger context from which they come from. This systemic perspective offers opportunities for me to prioritize a culturally responsive approach.

The frameworks that inform my practice include Narrative, Existential, and Internal Family Systems theories. I am passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ folks, and have experience with advocacy and program development around gender diversity and sexuality. It is my intention to create a space that is affirming and accepting of all identities and experiences.

Outside of my therapeutic practice, I enjoy uncovering vintage decor at secondhand stores, gaming on my PC, playing board games with friends, and listening to music. I love to explore new restaurants, cafes, and festivals in my neighborhood.

I have over eight years of experience providing individualized support and advocacy for clients through residential, in-home, and outpatient services. I earned my Master’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of WI, Milwaukee in Psychology and Women’s & Gender Studies. My practicum experience emphasized cultural responsiveness at the core of its curriculum. I am looking forward to walking alongside you on the therapeutic journey you’re embarking on
