Meet Laura Nelson, MA
You are arriving right on time, and I am glad you are here. If you are feeling unsure or confused, that’s ok. I want to help you take the next steps toward healing and change. Together, we will create goals based on what you want, how you make meaning, and what your values tell you. I want to help you advocate for yourself as the expert of your own life.
Connection with your surroundings is important for feeling balanced. My previous career was in forestry and environmental education, so I have an appreciation for how nature impacts our well-being. Some basic assumptions in my practice are that people can and do change; we all have inherent strengths to rely on; and culture, identity, and family (biological or chosen) are important to consider when choosing healing. I have clinical experience working with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, neurodivergence, relationship challenges, and sobriety. I enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and have experience supporting those seeking gender-affirming medical treatment. I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Additionally, I have training in Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as "tapping." I am currently working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Minnesota, under the supervision of Melissa Erskine, MA, LMFT. I am currently available for in-person and telehealth appointments. Insurance I can take: Aetna, America's PPO, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Health EZ, Health Partners, Hennepin Health, Medicaid (MA), and UCare. I also take private pay and Health Savings Accounts.
