Anxiety Therapy

Therapy For Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety Therapy

Do you worry or feel anxious about many things in your day-to-day life? Do you imagine worst case scenarios? Do you think about every possible outcome? Do you find it difficult to control the worry?

Due to worrying or anxiety do you feel irritable, have difficulty concentrating, are restless? Do you experience physical symptoms such as rapid heart rate, sweating, muscle tension, nausea, difficulty sleeping?

If so you may have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Generalized anxiety is more than normal anxiety. It’s chronic and exaggerated worry and tension, even though, at times, nothing seems to provoke it. You may worry excessively over money, health, family or work. You may not be able to shake your concerns, even though you often realize that your anxiety is more intense than the situation warrants.

At Indigo, we have worked with many people with anxiety and find that  a multifaceted approach works best. This may include the use of diet, exercise, mindfulness along with behavioral and thinking strategies and for some clients if they choose, also medication. We try to come up with an individualized plan that that works best for each client.

We can help by examining cognitive distortions that can lead to anxiety. These can be things like catastrophizing, black-and-white thinking, “should” statements, personalization, perfectionism, overgeneralizing and more.

Additionally, we work with clients to learn mindful practices such as breathing, progressive relaxation, guided imagery. Since anxiety works both in the brain and body, it is important to work both on the thinking and the physiological symptoms. We can also integrate the use of writing and art therapy to lower anxiety symptoms.

We have additional experience in helping people with Social Anxiety. Do you feel social phobia or fear of being judged or negatively evaluated, or rejected in social or performance situations? Do you worry about acting anxious or being viewed as stupid, awkward or boring? Do you experience physical symptoms such as racing heart, sweating, nausea when in social situations? If so you may have social anxiety.

We help people with social anxiety to work on their self-esteem, their negative thought patterns, along with mindful and practical strategies to reduce physical symptoms. We can help people to worry less and be more present in social situations.

We know it can be scary to take the first steps to talk to someone about your anxiety. We are here to help. Contact us today to schedule a first appointment to see if we’re a good fit.
