Meet Mariah Hutchinson, MAAT, LPCC, ATR,
Art Therapist, Clinical Supervisor
Therapy is a creative, collaborative relationship. As an artist and therapist, I am here to help you create the life you want to live. I am not here to fix you; you are not broken. We will work together to find new ways for you to be in relationship with the problems and the joys in your life.
If you are ready to step into a creative, collaborative journey, then I am here to offer a safe, supportive space to do just that. Let’s get curious about how to cultivate more room for pleasure, joy and connection as well as for the uncomfortable, tender parts of your life that need care and compassion.
My approach to therapy is relational, narrative, and trauma informed. This means I believe problems are problems, you are not a problem. I believe we create meaning in our lives through the stories we tell about ourselves and our experiences.
Together we’ll use the creative process of psychotherapy to develop new relationships with your problems and to enrich the stories of desire and hope that have brought you to therapy. We will create space for the expansiveness
of your feelings and experiences, using somatic and art therapy, and mindfulness practices along the way to deepen your relationship with your mind, body, and spirit. Your whole self is welcome here.
You do not have to consider yourself an artist or artistic to work with me—creativity comes in many forms! Check out the art therapy page to learn more about my approach to using the creative process and art making in therapy.
I am a Registered Art Therapist, an LPCC licensed by the state of MN, and hold an MA in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have experience working with adults of all ages finding meaning amongst the intersection of gender, sexuality, race, culture and spirituality.
I have extensive experience working with queer and trans folks and the broader LGBTQIA+ community. I work with adults exploring gender and sexuality, desire and pleasure related concerns, and the various relationships these are expressed within, including non-monogamy. In addition, I have worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, and a range of life transitions.
When I’m not working I can usually be found reading (usually a couple of books at a time), drawing or painting. Going on long walks or enjoying a meal with friends are my favorite places to be when I’m not curled up with my cat and a good book.
Insurance I can take: Aetna, America's PPO, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Health EZ, Health Partners, Hennepin Health, Medicaid (MA), Preferred One, UCare. Also I can take: Private Pay and Health Savings Accounts.
I am available for Teletherapy appointments.
