Meet Mariah Hutchinson, MAAT, LPCC
I am an artist and therapist who can help you connect with your strengths to create the life you want to live. I believe we create meaning in our lives through the stories we tell about our experiences and ourselves. Together we’ll use the creative process of psychotherapy to develop new perspectives on your problems and to create new paths forward in your life.
My approach is based in narrative and art therapies. This means I believe you are the expert on your life and I am here to work alongside you, helping you tap into your creativity and curiosity to rediscover joy and connect with what you value.
You do not have to consider yourself an artist or artistic to work with me—creativity comes in many forms! Check out the art therapy page to learn more about my approach to using the creative process and art making in therapy. I use a range of approaches in my strengths-based, trauma-informed practice. Along with narrative and art therapy, I utilize Acceptance and Commitment therapy, mindfulness practices, values-based goal setting, and stress reduction techniques.
I hold a Masters degree in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and am licensed by the state of MN as an LPCC. My experience includes working with adolescents, young adults and adults of all ages and gender identities. I have experience working with folks experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, and gender and sexuality issues.
When I’m not working I can usually be found reading (usually a couple of books at a time), drawing or painting. I also love to quilt, spend time outdoors, play video games and hanging out with my partner and our cat.
