Meet Jordan Timmons, MA, LPCC
It’s common to feel like you’re alone and disconnected from the world. You may feel like you have to hide your true self, have forgotten what it’s like to be happy, are in the middle of a major transition, or need to cope with something really painful.
A strong connection lies at the heart of a positive therapeutic relationship and is critical to help you move forward. In therapy, we can work together to reduce the distance and help you feel more connected to others and to yourself. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I can help create a safe space where you can be seen, heard, and understood. I can support you as you experience and process emotions, and together, we can address patterns in your life that are no longer working for you. I am here to help you uncover what you value, so you can build the life you want to be living. You are the expert on your life, and in our work together, I will support you in identifying your inherent resilience and reconnecting with your inner resources while offering additional coping skills that can support you in living your authentic life. I take a holistic approach to well-being: I see you as a whole person and your health as more than just the absence of symptoms. I want to help you to find joy and meaning in your story as you learn to navigate the process of being human. I am skilled at helping clients examine influences from family, the community they grew up in, and society at large. I can help you to identify ways that systemic oppression contributes to lower quality of life and challenge internalized oppression in order to promote healing. While I enjoy working with a diverse group of clients, I am particularly skilled at working with individuals dealing with shame, depression, trauma, anxiety, identity, life transitions, and improving relationships with others (including identifying and setting boundaries, improving communication, and deepening relationships). I am also experienced in helping clients learn to regulate emotions, especially individuals who feel like they oscillate between numbness and overwhelming emotions. I am an anti-oppression, LGBTQIA+ affirmative, Health at Every Size (HAES) practitioner who is committed to advocacy as a core part of my professional identity. I have experience working with individuals from a variety of racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I approach therapy from a position of cultural humility, meaning that I come to our work with curiosity, centering your values in our work together. I am passionate about meeting people where they are, and I am skilled at identifying starting points and goals along your path of personal growth and healing. I am a former public-school teacher and have master’s degrees in Family Social Science and Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. When not working, I enjoy spending time with my spouse and our three dogs, reading, watching movies and shows, working on puzzles, and listening to podcasts. I am in-network with the following insurance providers: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Partners, Hennepin Health, Medical Assistance (MA), PreferredOne, and UCare. Please confirm coverage with your insurance company. I also accept private pay. I would be honored to partner with you in this journey.
