Helen Holt

Meet Helen Holt, MA

Picture
I believe none of us are broken. Life is hard and we humans are all navigating our individual journeys the best we know how. Therapy should be a safe space where you don’t have to mask – you can be who you are, as you are, with no judgment, platitudes, or trying to “fix” you. What is your story? What brought you to where you are today? Where do you want to go? Let’s begin there.

I enjoy working with adults of all ages, preteens and teens who need someone to “get them” and honor what they need. I also enjoy working with couples and all genders of the human spectrum (male, female, transgender, and nonbinary humans). As a BIPOC descendant of oppressed ancestors with intersecting marginalized identities,  I approach therapy through a systemic lens that honors those unique experiences.

My goal is for anyone I work with to feel and be seen, heard, and supported. I am person-centered in my core and eclectic in my approach. This means I bring in various modalities tailored to meet the needs of each individual grounded in empathy, warmth, and non-judgment. Examples of approaches I use are: IFS (internal Family Systems), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Existential Therapy, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and Sensorimotor/Somatic Trauma-based practices.

My passion is helping humans who are facing real, ongoing and complex challenges that don’t have easy answers or quick fixes – but who are seeking meaning and purpose, or just some clarity in the chaos. Some of my favorite people are deep thinkers, those who don’t fit in with the world around them, feel alone and misunderstood, and are very hard on themselves. Self-compassion is a big part of my therapeutic work.

If that’s you, let’s talk. I’m here to walk beside you and support you in this season of life you’re in.

I work specifically with chronic illness and disability, ADHD/neurodivergence, grief/loss, existential depression and anxiety, ongoing depression/anxiety, difficult life transitions, mid-life crises, identity crises, identity/values development and religious trauma. I also work with cult survivors from coercive high, control, high demand groups and those wanting to exit high control, high demand groups but don’t know how or where to begin.
I work in depth with identity-based trauma (racial trauma, systemic trauma, disability/chronic illness trauma, and religious trauma) – as well as family systems trauma from caregivers with narcissistic traits.

Currently I am working towards my LPCC licensure under the supervision of Jay Callahan, MS, LPCC at Indigo Counseling Center. I am in-network with the following insurance providers: Blue Cross Blue Shield (Including Anthem BCBS, out-of-state BCBS, Commercial BCBS and BCBS MA), Aetna, Cigna Behavioral Health, Health Partners (Commercial and MA), Hennepin Health, Medical Assistance (MA), and UCare. I also accept private pay.

Outside of therapy life, I enjoy painting, writing short stories, hanging with family and friends, thrift shopping, taking nature walks and hip hop and soca dancing. Thank you for taking some time to get to know me, and I look forward to meeting you!

I am currently available for telehealth and in-person appointments.
