Meet Alley Maki
I seek to create a therapeutic space that centers liberation, supporting the belief that individual wellness is bound to collective well-being. I aim to help clients build upon their strengths and values, encouraging unlearning harmful patterns and limiting beliefs. I use a systemic and relational lens, working towards identifying ways to find a sense of peace within the social realities affecting each
individual. I believe therapy can take many forms and seek to co-create the experience with each client. I believe when you invest in your own mental health, it can create an outgrowth of healing and endless possibilities. It is an honor to join others in their journey and to be trusted with their stories. My previous professional settings working with the houseless community and within the wellness field as a massage therapist inform my holistic approach to understanding clients’ experiences. I enjoy working with individuals and couples (18+) from all backgrounds, and have a particular investment in supporting folks with marginalized identities and backgrounds. I have distinct competence working with relational problems, anxiety, obsessive compulsive presentations, trauma recovery, sexual health concerns, eating disorders, life transitions, identity development, and the LGBTQIA+ community. I strive to be humble in this work, acknowledging the limits of my cultural competency outside of my own experiences and education. I am a pre-licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LPCC) under the supervision of Jay Callahan MS, LPCC. I draw from Narrative Therapy, Affirmative Therapy, Existential Psychology, Liberation Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. In my free time I prioritize rest, community care, personal relationships, and continuous self-education. I enjoy being crafty, eating delicious foods, making personalized playlists, attending queer events, and finding special thrift store items. “You do not have to be me in order for us to fight alongside each other.” – Audre Lorde |
